Public Works
Mission Statement
While looking into the future, it is important to not let the past slip away. Ogunquit's history is the very essence of its charm and that which makes it such a desirable resort destination. The Public Works Department is committed to promoting Ogunquit's quaint, small-town appeal and to cultivating and maintaining a community-oriented relationship of trust between Public Works and the public at large.
Responsibilities
The Public Works Department is responsible for managing and completing a wide variety of projects funded by the Town, and in most cases intended for use by the citizens of Ogunquit. They may be broad in scope and include such projects as building or repairing roads and sidewalks, planning and caring for parks, maintaining the integrity of the storm drain systems, trash removal, maintaining beaches for cleanliness, or repairing storm damage. Winter operations consist of plowing, sanding, salting, and snow removal. Public Works crews are on call 24 hours a day, 52 weeks a year, and are called out for clean-up after vehicle accidents, fires, or to remove dead animals from roads or beaches. DPW employees are always available to answer questions or concerns the public may have and are on the front lines with the Fire and Police Departments in cases of disasters such as hurricanes and floods. We are also charged with maintaining the Town's vehicle fleet.
In coordination with other municipal departments, the Department of Public Works provides the following services:
- Remove watercraft from Perkins Cove and maintain the municipal icebreaker.
- Beach cleaning and maintenance.
- Maintain municipal parks and parking lots.
- Joint and / or reciprocal work projects with the Ogunquit Sewer District.
No Roads are Posted in Ogunquit at this time!
